Frequently Asked Questions
How much does in-home euthanasia cost?
In-home euthanasia starts at $375. That includes a consultation with the veterinarian, sedation so your pet is comfortable, a peaceful euthanasia, a clay paw print and a lock of fur. Extended travel, evening or weekend visits ($50 to $100 when arranged), and pets over 100 pounds can add to the fee. Call us for an estimate for your location.
Can you come today or tomorrow?
We do our best to come the same day or the next day. Please call us or request an appointment and we will let you know when we can be there.
What happens during the visit?
We’ve put the whole visit, step by step, on our What to Expect page, along with the keepsakes you receive.
Can children and other pets be there?
Yes. Children are welcome. Other pets are welcome too if they’ll keep to themselves. If a pet is likely to bark or look for attention from the doctor, it’s usually easiest to have them in another room or the yard during the euthanasia. They can be with you before and during sedation, and can see your pet afterward before the doctor takes them for cremation.
Can we talk with the doctor before deciding?
Yes. A quality of life consultation is $75 by phone or $125 by Zoom. We talk through your pet’s condition and quality of life. Zoom also lets the doctor see how your pet moves at home. However, we can’t provide any diagnoses or treatment options with just a consultation.
What happens to my pet afterward?
If you choose cremation, we take your pet with us and arrange it with Agape Pet Services or Companah Water Cremation. With communal cremation, no ashes are returned. With private cremation, your pet’s ashes come back to you in an urn, with a selection of urns included. Full cremation prices are on our Services & Pricing page.
My dog is large. Will I need to help?
For dogs over about 25 pounds, the doctor will need help carrying your dog to her vehicle afterward, and dogs over about 90 pounds need two people to help. If you can’t help or would rather not, let us know ahead of time and we can ask the crematory to meet us at your home. That adds a fee starting at $75.
How do I pay?
We’ll email you a payment link so you can pay ahead by debit or credit card if you like. You can also pay at the visit with cash (exact amount, please), a check made out to Twilight Meadows Mobile Vet Services, or a card.
When will the doctor arrive?
We give a one-hour arrival window and aim for the start of it. As a mobile practice, we sometimes run a little behind. We’ll try to let you know when the doctor is on her way.
Is there a cancellation fee?
No, as long as you cancel before the doctor leaves for your appointment. The more notice, the better.
My pet passed away at home. Can you help?
Yes. We can come and take your pet into our care and arrange cremation. The transport fee starts at $125, plus travel depending on your location.
Do you come to my town?
We come to homes in Raleigh, North Raleigh, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Youngsville, Knightdale, Garner, Clayton, Cary, Apex and Holly Springs. We also travel to extended areas, so please contact us for details.
What if my pet has an emergency and I can’t reach you?
We may not be available evenings and weekends. If your pet has an emergency and you can’t reach us, please contact Wake Veterinary Hospital and Urgent Care at (919) 266-9852, or your nearest emergency clinic.
Is there support for us after our loss?
Yes. Our Pet Loss Support page has grief support lines, ways to remember your pet, tips for helping children, and books for children and adults. You can also add your pet’s star to Stars over the Meadow, our memorial page.
Or call us at (919) 306-1878.
